Emirates has announced that it will cover medical expenses of up to €150,000 (US$174,456) and quarantine costs of €100 ($116) per day for 14 days for passengers diagnosed with COVID-19 during their travels. This applies to passengers flying into Dubai or elsewhere around the world, regardless of whether they're traveling, economy, business or first class, and is offered at no cost to the customer.
This cover is immediately effective for customers flying on Emirates until 31 October 2020, and the first flight must be completed on or before that date. It is valid for 31 days from when passengers fly on the first leg of their journey, so they can continue to benefit from the cover even if they travel onwards to another city after arriving at their Emirates destination.
“We know people are yearning to fly as borders around the world gradually re-open, but they are seeking flexibility and assurances should something unforeseen happen during their travel," says HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Emirates group chairman and chief executive.
Customers do not need to register or fill in any forms before they travel to avail of the cover provided by Emirates, and they are not obliged to utilise it. If they choose to use it, any impacted passenger who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 during their travel simply has to contact a dedicated hotline to avail of assistance and cover.
